Featured products in admin

If you choose to view the selection list of featured products in admin, you are faced with what appears to be a completely random list of products. Please tell me this was an oversight and how to make the list alphabetical instead.

It looks like it defaults to order by products_model and can be alltered in admin/featured.php - this line

$prev_next_order = ' ORDER BY products_model'; // set sort order of dropdown

The default ordering is by products_model. To change this, modify admin/featured.php line 338

why? I have had tons of clients that don't even use model numbers.

and that does not seem to effect the popup to select "selection" - only the actual default list.

Line 241 change to

Specials is the same. Change lines 310 and 412

And again - this is to sort by product name in both situations.

I suggest adding a choice of sorting especially if this applies anywhere else. I personally would never want products_model as a sort by. Small carts are more likely to have owners who rely on product names rather than product numbers.

Alternately make product model required or a choice of what can be required for product insertion.

i have had numerous fights over the sort by model v product name. and i am in your camp that i think product name makes more sense for most store owners.

with regards to your first comment, yes that is not a dropdown, but a full product list. in the next release, we do plan to have the ability to filter that list by searching. in addition, i think the search facility is greatly improved. i think this screencast shows a bit of the power of the new methodology for searching:
