Amazon SES for sending email?

I'm running a new installation with no plugins. I'm at the point of configuring email sending. I have used AWS Simple Email Service (SES) in Sendy and would like to use it in this ZC installation. I have SMTP settings (server, port, user, password) but I can't quite figure out where to put the data. I have tried the obvious settings on the Config > Email page but I have not found a combination that works. Does anyone have experience with SES and ZC?

That configuration is not supported for sending transactional email within Zen Cart.

I have used SES with ZC. We integrated SES through Exim though, not in ZC. SES has an easy tutorial if you want to go that route. It improved our deliverability, but we later switched to Postmark.
