What versions of PHP does 1.39d work on above 5.2? And are any more optimal than others or more buggy than others?
Thank you!

That version MIGHT work on PHP 5.3 BUT, PHP 5.3 was totally abandoned in August of 2014.
If you were to find someone hosting that, I would do the Forest thing and run!

lol :)
Much agreed. I am behind on updates for my site. Unfortunately, my PHP only goes up to 7.1, so my host said I would need to purchase a new server. However, they said that I would need the cart to be able to run on 5.6 in order to not have to have cloudlinux (then I would basically put it on 5.6 and do the update to current zen cart and a higher PHP on the new server). So zen cart 3.9d will not run on 5.6? Or could it?
And I guess while on that notion, is cloudlinux subpar? I do not know much about the os and linux versus windows etc. I do know however, that I need to have cloudlinux with a low (5.2) version of PHP.
You need to upgrade your cart. Then you can run with a recent, supported version of PHP.

Considering how far behind this site is for updates, it's seems the optimal solution is to backup the database and the site files. Adjust to your new server, install a vanilla version of the Zen Cart software, perform a database upgrade, then use the backups to identify the differences that are desired/necessary to support continued operation. Be open with your customers that you are in the process of restoring the look and functionality of your site.
