/etc/hosts/ not responding to commands

# The following lines are desirable for IPv6 capable hosts
::1 localhost ip6-localhost ip6-loopback
ff02::1 ip6-allnodes
ff02::2 ip6-allrouters

As you can see adding the last line with local domain had no effect, typing domain name in status bar does not bring up local domain but some internet search results.
