Default Creating New Template - File Structure Not Making Change

    Hi,

I am customizing a fresh version of ZC v.1.5.8 and creating a custom template for these customizations. I have followed this instructions from this helpful tutorial https://docs.zen-cart.com/user/templ...ting_template/ and created the scaffold files. I then selected and chose this template in Admin...all great!

When I try to make a simple change such as removing the stock "Tagline Here" in includes/languages/english in the lang.header file and then save this to includes/languages/english/CUSTOM the changes do not occur and refreshing (CTRL+F5). When I change the original lang.header file the changes do take place.

I am obviously misunderstand where to save my customized lang.header file. Sorry for what must be a simple question....but can someone point out what I have done incorrectly in my file structure??

    Thank you in advance,

    Jeff

    Using the example you provided:

    Your template is in includes/templates/CUSTOM

    The override for the file

    includes/languages/english/lang.header.php

    should be in

    includes/languages/english/CUSTOM/lang.header.php

Be sure "CUSTOM" is identical in both places.

This is one of the basic customizations for 1.5.8 described here:

Thank you for your help swguy, I appreciate it.

The file structure that you have shown to be where to save my customized lang.header file is how I do have it set up....yet the customization does not pick it up unless I change the original file located in languages/english/lang.header Any thoughts as to why?

    Thanks again for your help,

    Jeff

Thanks for sharing these basic customizations....I will be sure that these files are inside my CUSTOM folders within the proper file structure...as some of these were not when making the changes I am trying in my above posts.

The one peculiar thing I noticed is that when I look at Admin-> Tools-> Template Selection ...... I have selected my Custom template to use but in the window on the right showing the active template, it shows both my Custom template as well as Responsive Classic Template.

Is this why these changes are only taking place when I change the files in the Responsive Classic Template and not in my Custom template? If so.....are there other files I need to include in my Custom template (other than the ones listed in https://docs.zen-cart.com/user/templ...ting_template/) to have it designated as using those files??

    Thanks again for your help,

    Jeff

Did you update /includes/templates/CUSTOM/template_info.php to change the $template_name value?

That's an easy error to make. Be sure to read https://docs.zen-cart.com/user/template/template_info/

    Hi lat9,

Yes, I have updated the template_info.php file in includes/templates/CUSTOM with the name value, etc.

Why when choosing my CUSTOM template from Admin->Tools->Template Selection does it show that I have chosen this new CUSTOM template, but it also includes the Responsive Classic in the window to the right showing what is active?? Is this perhaps why when altering files in my CUSTOM it is not making the changes but when altering the Responsive Classic files it does. Are there other files that I need inside my CUSTOM file structure in order for ZC to recognize the CUSTOM files as the ones to use??

Thanks again for your help and thank you swguy as well,

    Jeff

    Hi lat9 and swguy,

This morning, I thought I'd go through each folder and where I see a Responsive Classic folder I was sure to make a CUSTOM folder and made sure that within this folder, it contained all of the files that were also in the Responsive Classic folder.

When I got to includes/templates/CUSTOM this folder contained no files. I copied all of the files from the Responsive Classic folder into my CUSTOM folder so that files structures matched and voila....it now uses my changed files in my CUSTOM folders.

Thank you for your help once again,

    Jeff
