Ok, I forgot to mention that is am using bootstrap 3.7.5
I switched my template over to responsive and the Icons appeared in the Site Header as expected.

These icons are template-related. If you switch to yet another template, you'll have a different layout of, well, everything...
Stay with Bootstrap template - at least that one is truly responsive.
