Perhaps the sizes of some pictures can be reduced.

It was slow loading...hummm....
Well...can you give any advise on how to optimize images?
Googling for optimize image should get you lots of tips and tricks.

some extra tips from this forum:
Start using image handler 2. This resizes automatically product pictures.

As alternative, you can also use programms like Xnview or Irfanview etc for converting you large images to a jpg file with a size of 640 x 480 pixels and compression 85%.

For sure think about compressing your beautifull background images to aprox 75%
