Default no longer generating valid download links

I have to say that the store has been set up and working just as it should since April - selling downloadable digital files. However, my host migrated my site/store to a new platform this week, and since then, zencart is not processing valid links when the customer order is completed. Everything else works, the download button appears in the customer's account, but clicking that gives a "page cannot be displayed". Nothing at all has been changed in the admin part by me. (I don't know enough about this to mess with anything anyways).

I have tried to search through the forums, and the closest information I can find to try out is advice for setting permissions

    quote:
Most directories should be 755 ...
Most files should be 644 ...
If in unix and using Redirects on the Downloads ... /pub should be 777

being clueless as I am, I don't even know where to find these to check them - could this be the problem? and where would I find these files?

    thanks in advance
    Deb

Do you still see the green dot next to the filename in the Attributes?

Look at your web site via FTP at the /download directory ...

Do you see your files there?

Click on one that is not working ... click right and you should see a chmod on your menu ... does it say what the permissions are?

Can you download one of the downloads not working to your PC via the FTP software ... to an empty directory ... can you open it?

If you click on the directory /pub in your FTP software ... and click right and click chmod ... is the directory set to 777

    sigh

I've gone through all of that, set permissions, and the files transfer via ftp just fine

but still not getting a valid link for downloading those files in the store

    /pub is set to 777

download files are set to 644

and the host support people are totally clueless, so no joy from them

If you setup a tiny 100k zip file does it work?

If you delete one of the downloads in /download and re-upload it ... now does it work?

Just for giggles ... if you turn off the Redirect ... does it suddenly work on both large and small files?

well, thanks for all your help, though it didn't work

but the host has resolved it - here is the problem (even though I'm convinced they caused this when they migrated the site, cos there never WAS a file with a '.' prefix)

Your issue with the Zen Cart is resolved. The cart was trying to download the file from a folder starting with prefix '.', its not working in our platform. So we changed this to use without a '.' and we also modified the script at includes/modules/pages/download/header_php.php, now the download is working fine.

just FYI if anyone else comes across a similar error

    thanks again!

Do you know what they changed??? I am having this exact problem! I had a fully functioning download for my site before this happened.
    Thanks!

I have no idea what they changed, as I never saw a folder with a '.' prefix. But feel free to copy and paste their message to me as a suggestion to your own host, if it's the same host, you would think they would be starting to recognise a pattern
