Just changed host and belatedly discovered exec and shell_exec are disabled.
Has anyone attempted to modify this plugin to use "another method"...IS there any other method possible in the same vein: making a backup/restore from within Zen Cart?
Or, just give up and just use phpmyadmin export?

Are passthru and system also disabled? Those could be alternate ways to cause an external program to be executed.

They are using this standard list:
    exec, show_source, system, shell_exec, passthru, popen, proc_open

    Is this just lazy protecion?

It seems kind of "knee-jerk", but I don't know what problem the hosting company is trying to solve by those functions' disablement.

Close your account. Not kidding - this is a terrible red flag that they are clueless.

Thanks for your comments. Not wishing to prolong the off-thread discussion, but note that this is shared/reseller hosting, not a vps and from what I read, it seems the norm that these functions are disabled on shared hosting...I don't find any comments out there indicating it is a sign of incompetance, annoying as it is.

Not true. Plenty of shared hosting accounts permit you to run database backup, which depends on exec.

This file does an instant backup if called with the parameter ?backupnow, as per this post
    https://www.zen-cart.com/showthread....376#post363376

In my cron tests I get "file not found" due to the ?parameter. Without the parameter it finds the file but complains about other stuff.

Anyone got this to work as a cron?

Hello, I am using this plugin and have a VPS. This is working fine on one of my accounts but is not working on another. Here is the error messages: Running V1.56a works fine on one site but not this one. Any suggestions or thoughts? When I get on phpAdmin from this account this is the database server it is showing:

Server: localhost:3306 same as the working backup site.

    Server: lo
    Result code: 2
0 => mysqldump: Got error: 1045: "Access denied for user 'website'@'localhost' (using password: YES)" when trying to connect

Failure: The database has NOT been saved.
