Default Permission error logging into admin

Just installed zen cart for the first time. Install appears to finish ok and the site comes up on my browser ok, but I can't seem to get into the admin area. I have tried clicking on the admin area button at the end of the install as well as manually entering /admin/index.php and get the following error: You don't have permission to access /admin/ on this server

    Component name Component version
    www.onlinecircuitsales.com
    mysql 3.23.58-1
    php 4.3.2-14.ent
    perl-Apache-ASP 2.57-rhel3.build71040817.01

I have checked the configuration files and can't seem to figure out why I get this error. Please help.

Try TEMPORARILY renaming the /admin/.htaccess file

Thank you for the immediate response. I have tried your suggestion of renaming the htaccess file and there is no difference. Any other ideas? The main page comes up fine but I can not get into the admin portion. Thank you again.

Make sure you didn't accidently change the permissions on the /admin folder. It should be set to 755. Also make sure that /admin/includes/configure.php is set to 644.

Are you seeing a 403 error when you try to access the Admin section?

Thanks for the tips, changed the /admin dir to 755 and verified admin/includes/config file was 644. Still get the following:
    Forbidden

You don't have permission to access /admin/index.php on this server.

Additionally, a 403 Forbidden error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.
Apache/2.0.46 (Red Hat) Server at www.componentcommerce.com Port 80

    Thanks again for the help.

What does your Apache error_log say? It will be kicking out an error entry for this. It should shed some more light on the issue.

Removed everything, added a directory to the httpdocs directory and installed it there, and it works fine now.??. For some reason ther are no permission problems now. Thanks for the help.

Did you originally have it in htdocs when you were getting the errors?
