Searching in the Plugins for Image Handler also finds it.

    Default Proper image names

    Hi there,

I've looked through a few pages of posts and searched but can't find any info.

Has anyone been able to modify the code so that it uses the images actual name instead of the md5 hash? It would be better for SEO if it used the correct image name.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

    Cheers, John.

    Its back to the future....

The original imagehandler created images that way using the image name and _med or _lrg.

Then a BETTER way was found using the bmz functions and the hash.
Download the older version, if you can find it for inspiration.
imo: Personally you are wasting your time as lots of improvements have been made since.

    Lots of debate about this.
Majority opinion seems to be its irrelevant

Thanks for the input, I'm going to give it a go. An SEO consultant we have hired has recommended it, I'll post a link to my code if I ever succeed :).

Indeed LOTS of improvements.. Going back to older versions for this ONE feature is a step back in terms of functionality for what will amount to VERY little gain IMHO..

Agreed.. I have one client who uses an "SEO Consultant". His "SEO Consultant" has NOT ONCE EVER brought this up in his recommendations.. and my client's site ranks VERY well.. and has sales just over the $1mil mark.. That's because my client's "SEO Consultant" knows that content is KING.. which means that it's all about the TEXTUAL content. Pictures help, but search engines and people read and search for TEXT..

LOTS of sites out there using the latest versions of Image Handler who also follow best practices for SEO, and their images don't stand in the way of their sites being found by their customers.
