Default zen cart appears as directory listing

I am installing on a NetWare 6.5 server running apache2, when I try to run zencart/zc_install all I get is a directory listing, and ? for icons. when I click on install.php I get a blank screen. I know php is enabled, because I can display a test file from root of htdocs. What am I missing.

Index file settings? Apache has a list of files it look for as the default file to run when you hit a directory, index.htm, index.html index.php index.cfm ... and so on...

This is correct, but if you don't have default.htm set as an acceptable index file, when you click on it from the directory listing you will load the file. If he's clicking on install.php then it should load without issue.

Check to see if you can load the install.php file by putting it in the URL when you go there so it would be "http://www.mysite.com/zencart/zc_install/install.php"

Also, put a print statement at the very top of your install.php. If you're getting a blank page then the page is loading but it's not parsing the PHP inside it.

all of the things mentioned are active in my apache, directory indexing, index.php. I can launch the test file novell includes to make sure it is talking php. and that file displays correctly. I even checked permissions and set the while directory to 777. I am still confused, in a cloud of haze.

Did you put a print statement at the top of index.php or install.php to see if it prints "Hello" or whatever you want to test with?

Do other PHP pages work on the site?

    1. going to zencart/index.php works properly by redirecting to zencart/zc_install/index.php since it didn't find the database and/or config file settings

Thus, your processing of PHP files seems fine.

    2. What is your apache ErrorLog saying when you go to the zc_install pages?

    3. Are you allowed to use .htaccess files on your server? If not, try renaming zc_install/.htaccess temporarily as a test.

did all that still getting a blank page. apache logs show

    192.168.0.121 - - [22/May/2006:11:26:26 -0500] "GET /zc_install/ HTTP/1.1" 200 -
    192.168.0.121 - - [22/May/2006:11:26:26 -0500] "GET /zc_install HTTP/1.1" 301 373

what was the PHP script you used to test functionality of PHP?

It looks like you've taken the zencart folder offline. Can you point to the new URL?
