Interesting Issue with Admin Login

I have installed numerous carts at this point and I have never had this experience, I have tried searching the forums and the only time I see anything remotely similar is from the archives and version 1.2.4 of zen....

I have 2 carts on my shared server and for some reason when I try to login to the admin using firefox it brings up a box like I am downloading and wants me to save the .php file, in IE it goes to login.php and says page cannot be displayed.

Now one of these carts is a fresh install - was running fine and being configured, until friday. The other is a CLEAN empty install - brand new domain even and has consistently had this problem.

It isn't a browser issue because I can get to the admin on other carts that I maintain that are not on this server just fine. I am asking here, more for confirmation that this is something on the host end, because when I contacted them yesterday they simply blew it off.

This host is running nix and I can give you any other pertininent data if needed.

Any suggestions ? Anyone?

Just guessing...

Do you have access to the web server error logs? There might be a clue there.

Can you access both sites over SSL?

There's only one thing I can think of that might be caused by your installation:
It could be a .htaccess thing - try naming your .htaccess in the admin to dot_htaccess and see if it goes away - if so, you will probably need to edit/replace your .htaccess file.
