It may have something to do with your PHP Max Execution Time being only 10 seconds. The default is usually 30.

The PHP Max Execution time is usually configured between 30-45 secs.

If you have a shorter value, (or bigger), it would be highly recommended to set this value between these values (from first line).

Sorted, although it was a workaround. I made the installation manually by uploading the sql directly onto the server and altering the configure files. The front end worked straight off but the admin didn't.

The host told me that the diabled PHP functions could not be enabled and to see with the software developer. Very helpful. They also suggested using $_SERVER["DOCUMENT_ROOT"] instead of the physical path to solve the open_base problem. To my surprise this actually worked and I can access the admin.

So problem solved. Although the automatic install didn't work, it wasn't too difficult to do it manually.

    Thanks for all your help.

    Best regards,

    R

I think it's kind of strange that $_SERVER['DOCUMENT_ROOT'] can be used as physical paths.

This works on some servers ... which is why we use the physical path ... but, more often than not it is not the desired method ...

It is best to utilize the correct paths ... your hosting site should be able to give you a valid answer to this ...
