As the present time (V1.3.x), Zen Cart does not support "dependent" attributes... where one thread type would ask selection of certain fabrics, but choosing a different thread would offer "different" fabrics.

However, if you can let them choose their own combination without having to "force" certain dependencies, Zen Cart should work fine.

Re: how to … ? /improved attributes controller add-on module

This would seem to be the solution to the long awaited
"attributes w/dependency" solution--however, we've not yet found the way
to link second drop-down with dependency to options on the first.

This setting is supposedly available somewhere from admin in
    the new "IMPROVED Attributes Controller"

    From the downloads page/admin section:

    Improved Attributes Controller

    • Zen Cart™ Version: v1.3.0
    • Version: 1.0
    • Last Updated: 06/01/2006
    • Author: Bunyip
    • This module changes the way the dropdown select fields work on the Attributes Controller Page. The content of the second dropdown (option values) is now dependant upon the content of the first dropdown (option names), so you will only see values that apply to the selected option name. Javascript is used to avoid having the page reload when you make that selection in the first box.

I have installed this to my demo/test site; set up product X with two drop down attibute fields--
How do you edit the attributes in dropdown2 to be dependant on specific attributes
    in drop-down 1?

Is there any further explanation available? or link to the proper thread?

    thanx,
    sWitt

    switt,

the only thing that is dependant is setting up the attributes,
when setting them up if you choose thread then ONLY thread attributes will display on the left.

it has nothing to do with what the customer can see or how the attributes work on the catalog side.

Re: how to create a kit/Improved Attributes Controller

    Merlinpa1969,

    if i understand your explanation correctly;
Does this eliminates the need to set or copy attributes on a per product basis?

So, during the apply/edit attribute step of product setup by choosing to
"thread attribute " new product gets attributes threaded (the same set)
as product chosen to thread to?

i'll have another look & load another test product or two--
i must be missing something that should/would be obvious
    to the more enlightened/experienced.

Sometimes, the only way is to learn by doing--zennnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn-nnnnnnn
    slowly getting a grip,

No what this means is that when you setup an attribute

in the left box are ALL of the names

    lets use
    color, size, shape, and fabric

    and the right box has

red, blue, green, yellow, large, small, medium, round, square, rectangle, and cotton, denim, burlap

OK normally you will see ALL of this and its a PITA to sort out what you need

the attribute controler works like this

    If you choose
color in the left then you ONLY SEE red, blue, green, yellow in the right hand box.

it will ONLY show you variables that are setup for that option
