    Default Override Does not work for me

    I created in includes/languages/english a folder called custom and coppied the files into it that i wished to change such as header, index, and metatags and none of them would override my main shoppingcart page. I tried again and again and I ended up having to change core files in the english folder because the files in my custom folder were not picked up- is there somewhere i am supposed to tell zen cart to look in the includes/languages/english/custom folder??

    have you created a folder in
    includes/templates/ called custom and put a tpl_info page in it?

    You will need to do this first and then
    using your browsed you need to login to admin

    go to tools
    template selection and hit edit and turn ON the new template

    open template_default and copy the tpl_info page from there to your custom folder and make the change inside to change the name

    its the file that tells zen cart that there is a new template there

    I think he means a template_info.php

    Create the new folder includes/templates/custom
    Copy the file includes/templates/template_default/template_info.php
    Edit that copy to put your own template info in it, and save it as includes/templates/custom/template_info.php
    Then the cart will recognize the template's existence and you'll be able to select it from Admin > Tools > Template Selection (your custom language files won't be used by the cart until you have selected that template)

    ok i understand that and what it is- but i like the default_template and planned on using that. I just wanted to change the keywords, header, footer, etc...so when i create the custom template folder should i just copy all the files and folders inside template_default into my custom folder?

    no - in your case all you need in the includes/templates/custom folder is the template_info.php file
    You only need to put in that folder any files that you want different from the template_default: if the cart doesn't find a file it needs in your custom template folder, it uses the one from template_default

    Thanks for all your quick help. Do I need to make any changes to that template info file or just leave it exactly the same as the default_template template info file? If i did make any changes to lets say the author or name of the template inside the file called template_info would it still work?

    you do need to change the info in that file, otherwise the cart couldn't tell them apart.
    At a bare minimum, you need to change
    Code:
    $template_name = 'Default Template';
    to something else, such as
    Code:
    $template_name = 'Custom Template';
