Help with Manufacturer sale

I am needing to set up a way to offer sales based on manufacturer. I created a manufacturer category and linked items to other categories and this works, but I need to know if there is another way to do this, as I don't want the manufacturer categories to be listed. I tried to set them as inactive but since the products are linked, they also go inactive in the other categories.

Make a Category ...

Hidden

Set the categories_status to 0 or OFF

Make a SubCategory ...

Manufacturer1
Manufacturer2
Manufacturer3
etc.

Where Manufacturer is your actual Manufacture name ...

Link the Products to their proper Manufactuer's Category ...

Set each of the Manufactuer's Categories as the master_categories_id for these Products ...
