still don't know how to set up the tax rate.....

My store is in Mo. So I followed the instructions on the forum to set up the sales rate as 5.1%, zone as MO.

But when I tested my website store, I put in a NY state address, like" Buffalo, NY, 14225". But it came out still collecting "Missouri State Sales Tax".

Why? Customers from others states except MO should not pay sales tax online. Is it right?

Thanks a lot for any tip.

This is an example of adding a tax for a given state ...

Then Adjust to your state's setting where applicable ...

    Add a Tax Zone
    Go to Localization/Taxes ... Zone Definitions ...

    Click Insert:
    Zone Name: CA Tax

    Description: CA Tax Zone

    Click Insert to save.

    Click Details ...

    Click Insert ...

    Country: US

    Zone: California

    Click Insert ...

    Click Back ...

If you need another tax class,

    Go to Localization/Taxes ... Tax Classes ...

    Click New Tax Class ...

Enter a title and description (Usually you would only have taxable and non-taxable ... but there are occasionally other reasons to add another class).

    Add a tax rate
    Go to Localization/Taxes ... Tax Rates ...

    Click New Tax Rate ...

    Tax Class Title: Taxable Goods

    Zone: California Tax

    Tax Rate (%): 7.75

    Description: CA Tax

Tax rates at the same priority are added, others are compounded.

    Priority: 1

    Click Insert ...

    Voila ... done ...

Re: still don't know how to set up the tax rate.....

    thanks for the tip!!

    one more question:

The instruction on the forum said "To make this faster when adding new products, in the Admin area, you can select a default Tax Class to be applied to all new products you create, by selecting "Catalog -> Product Types -> (choose a product type) -> Edit Layout -> Default Tax Class"

I did what the instruction said step by step, but don't know "What should the Product Price Tax Class Default ID be when adding new products?"

    Thank you!

As I just mentioned in another thread ...

Click on the Tax Class ... Click Edit ...

Peek at the URL and click Cancel ...

Use the value of the tID=## for this number ...

When you edit the tax CLASS after it's been created, look in the URL/address in your browser.
You'll see a part that looks like this:
    Code:
    &tID=1
The number after the = is the tax-class-id number you should enter for the default
