Sales Tax Charging Outside of Tax Zone

Hello,

I apologize if this was answered in the forums already, but I didn't see it.

I have a customer set up in a Michigan 6% sales tax zone, and to charge tax based upon shipping address. Michigan is the only zone set up, but it is charging the Michigan sales tax to everyone. Since there isn't a ton of people in the forums facing this problem, I will assume I must be missing a setting somewhere.

I recreated the zone using the instructions in one of the stickies here, but am still having the same problem.

Any assistance would be appreciated.

On your newly-created zone definition, if you click on the Details button, what is selected for country/state limitation?

Country is set to United States, Zone is set to Michigan.

That's puzzling. Usually when everyone's getting taxed it's because the zone definition didn't actually have the country/state set.

How many other zones do you have set up?
Do you have tax rates linked to those too?

The only tax rate set is the Michigan sales tax, and I haven't created any other zones. All that should be there are the ones from the initial install.

You shop appears to be setup for Michigan Tax ... however it must be set for the Shipping Address to be Michigan ...

When it is the Payment Address that is Michigan and the Shipping is Ohio ... there is no tax ...

If this is correct, then you appear to be working ...

If this is wrong, then you have your tax setup to be based on Shipping Address ...

This is managed on the Configuration ... My Store ...

Nope, tax by shipping address is the way it should be working, and it does indeed seem to be working now. That's odd cause I tested it with an Oklahoma address last Saturday after recreating the tax zone, and it did charge sales tax. Did the same thing after you just checked it, and now it didn't charge sales tax.

Have no idea why it started working now, but glad it did!

NOTE: many settings are cached ... and can take time to clear ... 3 minutes to 24 minutes ...

To assure that you have a clean session, when testing things that do not appear to respond right ... close all browser windows ... clear your cache ... and open a clean browser ...

See if that doesn't help next time ...
