External Order Numbers Generator - different customers using Same Order ID on Authnet

Hi All

When using this contrib (thanks, JeffD!), what happens when one customer tries but fails to create an order, then a few minutes later, a second customer comes along and then creates an order using that same order ID that the first customer failed to create an order with?

1. "Customer A" tries twice to create order 1234, but payment processor (Authnet_AIM) declines this twice (cuz of AVS mismatch)

2. "Customer B" comes along a few minutes later. Customer B successfully creates order 1234 using totally unique cc info and billing info.

Is there anything that should be of concern about this? Does this create any confusion, etc.?

The order history in the Authnet admin shows all transactions, failed and successful.

Yes, what you describe Dogtags is a distinct possiblility that can happen this way but should not cause a problem that I am aware of. Here's what happens...

Cust A is goes to AIM module and generates an EONG orders_id. He is declined
(even n times, but reuses that orders_id since it is attached to his session). The orders_id is locked and assigned to him thoughout the authorization process but as soon as AIM declines the orders_id is marked for reuse, removed from his session and returned back to the pool.

Cust B during this time places an order, he will get the same orders_id (since until an order with this orders_id is written to the orders table, will be reused). As soon as the order is written, then the next orders_id will be used/generated. If Cust A attempts to place another order, he will get a new orders_id.

Does this make sense?
