how to change permissions

hi, first post here and thanks in advance for any reply.

i'm setting up zencart on my local computer for a test. i'm using Apache2 server, PHP5 and MySQL5 on my windows xp system.

couple of question:

On the server locate the file: /catalog/includes/dist-configure.php 
Rename this file to configure.php and change the permissions to 777 (read-write-execute for all)

do i need to change the permissions on my local computer to run the zencart? if so, how do i change it? is it something in the dist-configure.php file?

another question is: do i have to use PHP4 instead of PHP5 for the zencart run smoothly?

there is no metter what kind of php u will use. But zen cart is more testet at php4 so u can try 5.

Did u run the install after install that u made u have to set attribute
the both configure.php as Read-Only . (right click on file Properties read only.)
/includes/configure.php
/includes/admin/configure.php

but know ur problem is that u have to set full permission to all files. right click on zen-cart folder - Properties - and mark off the Read Only Attribute :)

Its not something hard to do
