    Default Options and Attribute Suggestions Please!

    Hi all.
    Ok, so her eis my quandry.

    I am seling a product that has a number of options.
    This particular category needs an options to add the following;

    No Plaque
    Brass Palque
    [colour] Plaque
    [colour] Plaque
    [colour] Plaque

    each of which are available in sizes

    4x3
    5x4
    8x5

    so essentially I have 15 different combinations of product opitons [for the above anyway]

    how the best way to setup the options and attributes so that;
    a - when the customer get to his cart, he will have either selelcted a plaque, or none at all, and this is shown clearly in the cart.
    b - I dont believe that attribute associations are in place yet are they?

    Any help would be much appreciated,

    You didn't say whether the options are different prices - I assume at least some of them are. That will complicate things, but just a bit.

    First, you will want an option named "Plaque" (or whatever you like) with values of None, Brass, [Color}, [Color], etc. It can be dropdown or radiobutton, whichever works better for your layout. You need to make a default, and you may want to add a value "Select one" and make it default and display only to force the customer to consciously choose one of the options.

    Next, you will want an option named "Size" with values of None, 4x3, 5x4, and 8x5. You should probably make None the default, or else add a "Select one" value as above.

    Pricing is the next task. If the brass and color plaques can be the same price, then you can simply make the sizes carry the added charge for each, with None being at the base price or +0.00.

    Hope this helps you.

    For the first part i;
    1 - added a option called Plaque Type
    2 - added a value under this type called Choose One
    3 - set this values attribute flags: display only: true, default: true.

    Thus, when the item is added to the cart, the client is also warned.

    I cant do the same with size option as i could end up with a size of plaque being irdered without a type [ worst case ].

    Cant wait till the new version with better attribute handling comes out!! Yipee

    Any other suggestions?

    If you are comfortable with php code (or javascript as swguy mentions), you can add a verification step in the shopping cart module to kick back if the attribute combination is invalid. I don't know enough about it to offer any more directions.

    swguy here. An example of two radio button based attributes which are validated against each other is provided in

    For code hints about handling dropdown boxes or text fields, see

    Scott-

    Looks like you have put quite a lot of time into making some nice additions for Zen Cart, we would love to have them packaged and put into the Downloads section, otherwise we cannot support them here.

    They aren't really packageable - they're examples. They would make no sense as a package since there is so much descriptive text that describes how to make it work in your system.

    I definitely do agree that packaging is the way to go for things that can be packaged; I submitted a package last month and am looking forward to doing so again soon.
