sometimes ie8 add to cart doesn't work on my site

Hi,

New to forum so hope someone can help...

I am running Zencart 1.3.8a using the classic template with a slight colour change, I have set up a site which I was under the impression was working fine..... then i found out that if a customer is using Internet explorer 8 then they can't add anything to a basket...

i tried using <meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=EmulateIE7" /> in the html_header

however this doesn't always work... sometimes it will allow you to add one item... but nothing else and once you remove that item from the cart you can't ad anything extra....

does anyone have a full solution to this other than the <meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=EmulateIE7" /> that you see on some forums?

Most Zencart sites work fine with IE8, so it's something specific to your site, maybe your template. A link to your site will help us help you.

it is just using the standard template... i've removed the earlier mentioned html_header line while trying to get it to work...

I have also noticed that this is a random error....

when the add to cart button doesn't work then there is no url displayed in the status bar at bottom of screen when mouse over

please please help... this is a show stopper for me if i can't solve this problem!!

Your source says you're using the 'darkness' template. Try switching back to 'classic' and see if the problem persists.

Yes sorry just been trying it to see if it solved the problem but it hasn't....

back to the standard classic now....

the only thing i have changed is the graphic that changes the colour of the sidebox headings

This may well be an IE8 problem rather than a Zen Cart problem. I upgraded to IE8 and then found that if I tried to open a fifth tab that no page would load in that tab. I downgraded back to IE7 and now every site I visit which uses SSL throws up a warning message about "Insecure Content". I am a fan of IE (unlike many) but even I have to admit that IE8 is busted, broke, and no damn good.

Thanks for your comment.... I am having the issue when only using one tab... and it's so hit and miss... there is no real pattern to it.. which i know makes it hard for people to offer help but was hoping someone has had the same issue and found a solution.

I have done a fresh install and simply pointed to the original db. I have made a couple of changes to the style sheet with regards to text colours but other than that it is the standard classic template....

Problem still exists!!!!!!

has anyone else come across this??? is the only solution to use a different cart other than Zen??

..and if you use a Browser which isn't IE8, what happens?

One thing you can be certain of with IE is non-standards compliant handling of CSS, but apart from layout changes this isn't a major problem with versions of IE up to v 8.
