    Help with Canadian Taxes

I have done the set up as per the "sticky" thread above and I am still having troubles. My client is in Quebec and I have set up the taxes so that GST is charged on all provinces. I have then added PST for Quebec clients only and it is supposed to charge the PST on top of the GST charged. All appears to be done correctly.

When I test it, I am not being charged any taxes at all if I use a Quebec shipping address. Works fine if I use an Ontario address and charges me the 6% GST.

Any other Quebec businesses on here that have taxes set up and working fine??

Thank you! We are hoping to go live in 10 days but we are stuck until we get this fixed.

did you set the order of the taxes ? Example GST is set for priority 0 and PST priority 5 therefore it calcs gst then pst.

Also looks like your French side css is whacked out for text size. Looks fine in English, so if using dual css for langs, then verify the French side.

Also, let me know when the site is ready and live, if interested I'll hook you up with the IC site for link exchange as your site seems like a good cross-exchange for the IC clients as well

How have you selected "Quebec" for addresses?
Are your tests using QC or PQ for the province?
What do you have inside the Admin->Locations/Taxes->Zones Definitions->Quebec->DETAILS area?

Am using QC for the province - I also thought I had maybe used PQ out of habit and that's not it - I did enter QC.

Am using an Ontario billing address and a QC shipping address. It should charge me based on my shipping address and if nothing else, it should at least be charging me the 6% GST based on my billing address.

The only thing I have inside the Admin|Locations|Zones Definitions | Quebec is only Quebec.

I think I've been looking at too much code this week.

Thanks for all your help so far!

Oh - and I had to remove the EZ-Pages for multiple languages mod - it's what totally whacked out my French side of things. Phooey - guess I'm going back to the old Define Editor pages. :)

Then I'm wondering what I've done wrong.

Here's a screen grab from my Tax Rates page. I had to set it up this way as I have many products that are only charged GST/HST and then some that are to be charged both GST/HST and QST.

Thank you for any help you can offer.

    Hi Jennie,

Not sure why you have you many tax classes seeing that you reside in QC.

For the way we have it set is quite simple.

We collect GST/PST for Quebec and only that of the GST for the rest of Canada.

As far as I know, as a QC company you are not obligated to collect taxes for the other provinces other then GST.

We charge a flat shipping rate based on dollar value of the order. The flat rate is added to the total purchase and then taxes.

Thus we have two classes setup as follows

0 Product Ship Canada Quebec 6%
    1 Product Quebec TVQ/PST 7.5%
    0 Canada Canadian TPS/GST 6%

Zone Definitions - Taxes, Payment and Shipping

Canadian TPS/GST (All Provs GST 6%)
    Quebec TVQ/PST (QC TVQ 7.5%)

Thus, a products tax is is set for product in our setup and thus calcs based on the order setup as shown in the t classes.

    Hope this helps
