Curious why there are no code changes only from version to version for those who have modified their carts?

This would be helpful to this poster I think.

The overrides make life easier- but there were massive updates to the template files in the 1.3 release.

Template upgrade difficulties depend on how much and what kind of customizing you have done.

sorry to hear you're plannning to throw away what you've got.
hope you find something that meets your needs for a better price.
oh ... and ... you'll have to re-do your template entirely for another system, so you'll be glad you have your overrides folders to help you know what things to re-build over there...

sorry, cheap threats don't cut it.

If I misread you and you're really just frustrated by expectations, and merely stomping your feet in protest, then I think you'll be pleased with the end-result after you upgrade. The 1.3 version intentionally was a complete overhaul of the template system because it was getting sloppy, bloated, and very out-of-date compared with industry trends, forcing people to design according to obsolete standards. Thus, the leap to 1.3 may include a little pain.

If you wish to tackle doing the upgrade of your current site+template to the new structure, there are a number of great hand-holding discussions in the template forum, the customizing forum, and the upgrades forum to help get you started, and assist you along the way.

If you wish to hire someone to do it, post an ad in the Commercial Help Wanted section, check out those who reply to be sure they have enough experience, and enjoy the ride. Perhaps they'll show you what they're doing and why...
