3 flat rates of shipping per item by zip?

I am looking into setting up a shopping cart for a furniture store. He would like to offer free delivery within a certain range, a different fixed price for each item for areas somewhat farther out, and then a different fixed price for areas very far away. Prices will be different for each item, depending on size, and he will tell me what he wants to charge.

I haven't installed ZenCart yet, so be gentle, LOL. I'm trying to do all my research for him before jumping in. Thanks in advance.

Only 2 minor flaws in this...
One - It seems that 90% of America (which I presume your developing store will be selling to) dont know their zip code
Two - Is there a complete list of zip codes available in the States available to the pubic?

Id suggest problem 1 is the most difficult here for you.

I have no idea where you got that from, but people in America know their 5 digit zip code. If you're talking about the 9 digit zip code (aka Zip+4), you are right that most people would not know, but then there is not a real need to know as the 5 digit zip is all that is required for mailing nearly all of the time. People that require a 9 digit zip for mailing are probably going to know about it, and therefore know their 9 digit zip. But even if not, most carriers (actually I do not know of any that don't) will automatically convert the 5 digit zip to the 9 digit one if it is needed. Plus the Postal Service offers several Zip+4 lookup services if you yourself absolutely require the 9 digit zip for whatever reason.

Yes, that is what I was talking about Dreamscape, the full zip code, which as I have just learnt may not be needed :)
