    Default Creating a Database

Heh, my guess is that a couple of you guys are gonna get a kick out of this. I'm new to Zen, and not entirely computer literate (I know some HTML but that's not much these days).

So I started my own business, and Zen looks and sounds really good (tried GoDaddy's storefront, didn't like at all).

I went through and had GoDaddy swap our server to a linux server (which is what I was told needed to be done to enable PHP). Finally working through the initial setup of the store and I get to the Database Setup section.

I keep getting the following error:

    Connection to Database failed
Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/tmp/mysql.sock' (2)

Now, you remember the part where I said I'm not particularly computer literate? Good. How in the world do I go about creating a database for this thing? I dunno where to start, and wouldn't know what a database looks like if it was staring me in the face. Please be gentle and thanks in advanced folks.

    *edit*

I should probably mention that I have no idea what MySQL is, and if it's an install thing, I'm pretty sure I didn't do it.

Hello again, I'm back (of coarse).

Long story short, I set up the database, and am still getting the same response when I get to that point of the Zen Cart install. I noticed it says:

Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/tmp/mysql.sock' (2)

I looked through my FTP to see if a folder like that existed, and it doesn't. Could that be the issue, or am I thinking about this wrong?

    Thanks again.

Ugh Go daddy........still have one site hosted there. Moved the other one due to the slowness of their hosting my site.

make sure you are using mysql189.secureserver.net as the database host, you want to put that in there where it says LOCALHOST.

If you need any more help setting it up on Go Daddy let me know.

I'm pretty sure I set up the database right.

I tried to put in the host like you said, and it's not working still. I also went in through my control panel and took the address that came up at the top of the page (https://mysqladmin3.secureserver.net/115/) and dumped it into the localhost box. Still didn't work. I'm on hold with GoDaddy now about it, see what they have to say.

Thanks a ton. I'll keep you updated.

To set up a Database on Go daddy

Go to Godaddy...... log in....right hand side click my account.....look for a link called HOSTING ACCOUNT LIST on the right column.....on the control panel header click open...........go down to the MY SQL link click it.....click create new data base.........enter user name and pasword...........click create......ont he verification screen click create........wait for the pending setup to go through (about 5 minutes)

Data base is ready to use....

Go to db manager use the info for a host name there.....

Sorry not very thourough....in a rush

    Hope this helped

Man, I can't thank you enough. Really appreciate it.

As far as finding out my host, I had to go through control panel, and then click on the name of the account instead of the "open" button.

My database was set up right, which is a positive. After all that, I kept getting some random error on how it wasn't able to connect to my database. Turns out that I had the wrong name for the database, and left it Zen Cart in the database box. Kinda funny how it's the simple things that get me.

After that, everything's been smooth so far.

Again, thanks for all your help.

    Jose'
