Changing product ID's (shown in the URL)

When setting up a few demo products, the product ID was created for me automatically. I'm referring to the number that shows up in the URL: "products_id=180". I think they're also referred to as "master category id", but I'm not certain. And being that I can't use "ID" in a search on this forum because its too short, I needed to post!

Is there a way to change this number for each product to a number of my choosing? I have products that are gender specific and I would prefer to keep the ID structure I created (for ease of fulfillment). This would mean a girls "Audi" t-shirt would have a product ID of 181, and the men's version would have an ID of 281.

I need to be able to edit those product ID's. Any ideas? Thanks!

Interesting concept ... and no you cannot ...

The products_id has no relation to the master_categories_id ...

The master_categories_id is the Category that "owns" the Product when the Product is a Linked Product ...

The products_id itself is assigned as a purely unique tracking or pointer of a Product and is assigned as "next" number up for grabs ...

It is not designed to allow for manual assignment nor would this work well in the long run as Products get deleted, copied etc.

I was afraid that was the answer.

I've already created a Javascript function that grabs the ID from the URL in order to assign images and links to identical items in the opposite ***. It will still work for me, but there won't be any system to the ID's. Oh well!
