A tip about the warning message

I am new at this and I also had the same problem with changing the permissions on the store side of the site.

I tried changing the settings to 644 and 444 from both the ftp and the control panel with no luck.

I contacted my host to trouble shoot for me and here is what he said:

Hi,

I looked at the files and permissions are correct. The error on the shop homepage itself was pointing to another location:

/home/xxxxxx/mydomain-www/shop/includes/configuration.php

the names were changed to protect the guilty

Which I corrected.

This is the place that the page should have been pointing to:

/home/xxxxx/www/shop/admin/includes/configuration.php

So I guess that I put in the incorrect information during the installation.


Now I am not sure that will help everyone who comes up with that warning, but it may help someone.

I now have to go figure out if anything else will be effected.

ps, the warning that we are talking about is:

This is a potential security risk - please set the right user permissions on this file (read-only, CHMOD 644 or 444 are typical). DId yer move host or something? The paths are completely different

One's going to public_html, the other's mydomain-www, not sure what's going on.

Usually that warning come up if you haven't change permission on the 2 configure.php files. Happen all the time.

No, I did not change servers/hosts, I entered informaton incorrectly when doing the install.

I entered :
mydomain-www/shop/includes

instead of:
www/shop/admin/includes

basically I just gaffed the name of my file structure. Within my own site, www is a valid directory.

btw, mydomain is not the name of my domain..... and the name of the directory is not xxxxx

The installer detects the information automatically. In 95% of cases, there is typically no need to change any of the settings ... other than maybe the SSL details and of course to fill in the database details.
