I am new to this and I have just loaded this cart up without problems but when i go to the mian page I do not get any formatting in either catalog or the admin. Can someone assist!

My host told be to remove the .htaccess files in \includes and admin\includes but what are the implications of doing this. Does it affect security?

It can affect security, but the use of .htaccess files in the includes folders are a backstop - in case the server is not set up correctly. Provided the server is correctly set up they are not necessary.
