NOTE: for every file in the:
    /includes/languages/english/html_includes/your_template_dir

You must have a matching file, even if empty, in:
    /includes/languages/english/html_includes

Otherwise there is nothing to override so there is nothing to show ...

That is understood, Ajeh. I'm only starting from the beginning as removing the files I mentioned 'should' return an error. We would then know that part is correct and can move on the next part.

Troubleshooting at its most basic level.

Okay I deleted all of the php files under html_includes and left everything in the "custom" folder. Still missing the files I created, in the admin "define pages editor". When I use "define pages editor" for "define_main_page" the change is not working or showing up on the overide folder. If I go to the html_includes/custom and manually edit the "define_maine_page" file the change takes to the website. It seems as though its not reading from the overide folder. I even renamed define_main_page in the classic folder??????????

thanks for taking the time to help

Maybe I've been doing too much coding today, but even I'm starting to get confused.

In a default site I've setup, deleting all 'php' files in the 'html_includes' directory showed no files to Edit, in the drop-down list of Define Pages Editor. That is how it should be if there are no 'php' files.

A quick check also showed the 'php' files in the 'html_includes' directory, after I uploaded them again, had file permissions of 644.

But ... the 'php' files in the 'classic' directory, which I never touched, showed file permissions of 777.

Not sure if all this helps with your problem. Just reporting things as test / see them.

Think it's time to take a break, before I do.

Thanks to your help - I figured it out. I had changed my user name on the server and reloaded the site. Long story short somehow on the server there where two file systems, one for the original user name, and one for the new, yeah i know screwy, as soon as that was fixed no problems. It only took me two and a half weeks to figure out!

I am facing the same problems and I am quite blur to find the solutions. I installed the Zen-Cart in the same server but for the second one, I installed it in a different directory but sharing the same database username with a different db_prefix for database tables. anybody, plz help me!

Have a Drink Re: Define Pages Editor

I had same problem - added 3 new pages using the About_us mod as a guide, and all went well except the new pages didn't appear in the Admin - Tools - Define Pages Editor.

Ajeh to the rescue - her tip several posts up was right on the money! As soon as I copies the 3 files from the ...html_includes/custom directory to thew ...html_includes directory, Bingo, all worked perfectly. The instructions in the mod are not clear on that point, but now it works and an added bonus - I'm beginning to understand the override system a little better.

    Thanks, Ajeh!
