There is a switch in the Attributes Controller on a per Attribute Basis that controls:
Attribute is Free When Product is Free: YES NO
Set to NO on an Attribute with a Price and there is a charge ...
Set to YES on an Attribute with a Price and there is Old Price and Free ...
Set to NO on an Attribute without a Price and there is no message ...
Set to YES on an Attribute without a Price and there is a goober looking message about the $0.00 and now Free ...

Thanks for a quick reply. I am sorry, but I cannot find the fields you are talking about. I am on the Attr. Controller page, I can see the coloured attr flags, and
"Attribute is Free When Product is Free: YES NO"
But there is no
"Attribute with a Price and there is a charge ..." etc
Where is it?
Thank you
That is what that setting does under those conditions ...

Yes, it is OK now! Thank you!
I am setting downloadable products and have read a loong manual how to do this. It works, but I have to assign options to the products first (dropdown box or radio etc). it looks a bit strange and illogical to me.
Can I set downloadable product directly in the Attr. controller without defining product options? The product can be ONLY downloaded and I have no options in fact
A download needs to exist within an Attribute ...
To be an Attribute ... you must have an Option Name and associated Option Value ...
