    Transparent PNG Problem in IE

    Hello everybody,

I've got some transparent PNG's that I'm using in a repeat fashion for the background of my site. Check it out here:

    http://jonahcoyote.com/zc

Everything as always looks great in Firefox (bless you Firefox), but in IE of course there are problems.

I've tried to implement the sleight and sleightbg javascript fixes by including the necessary js files along with a 1x1 transparent gif used by the scripts but IE still has problems with it. It renders part of my site but then stops at around the footer area and none of my links work. It's like the site is frozen.

I've seen this fix work on another site: http://216.246.55.121/~obaby/shop/

So I'm wondering what I'm not doing that this other person is doing?

    Anyone have any ideas?

    Thanks,
    Jonah

Default Re: Transparent PNG Problem in IE

I found that IE will distort images and fonts if the resolution of the computer screen is above 96dpi. I originally read about the issue in a few different places:

    http://idunno.org/displayBlog.aspx/2004042801
    microsoft's explanation is here:
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/de...ghDPI_solution

What I did to solve the problem is set the size of all my pictures and text using the css style sheet instead of the setting the image size on the web page itself (hardcoding it).

Perhaps that would help you too?

Idea or Suggestion Re: Transparent PNG Problem in IE

Thanks for the suggestion. I tried hard coding the width and heights but this did not fix it. In the end I've gone with jpeg's instead of png's for my bg images. Much easier than trying to figure out what the problem was. I think I narrowed it down to some onload conflict... Who knows though. So for all other zenners be warned that you may have trouble getting transparent png's to work with your site. You can try checking out this solution:

But like I said it didn't work for me.

Oh well, not a show stopper. Zencart is still the best!
