Can we show number of transit days for UPS module during checkout?

During checkout, I would like to show the customer how many days it will take for their package to arrive via UPS Ground. that way, if they are far away, they might be inclined to upgrade to 3 day, 2 day or overnight.

since ups is already giving us the prices, is there something in the communication with them that also tells us the number of days in transit? And if so, how would I go about extracting that information and displaying it to the customer?

This is built into the Shipping Module for UPS ...

Hi,

I've installed the UPS module and it is working, but I do not see anywhere where it displays number of days in transit for UPS ground. I also do not see any options for that in the admin.

I realize that 2 day will arrive in 2 days, over night in 1 day, etc...but I would like for the buyer to see how long it would take for shipping via UPS Ground.

Aha! A clue ... you mean totally specifically beyond a shadow of a doubt guess by UPS how many days ... nope ... I don't think even UPS knows that one until they deliver it ...

You could customize the module and put in a broad guess ...

But, then again, that would make you sad too ... if you were wrong ...

The UPS module supplied with Zen Cart does not access the UPS TimeInTransit API. It only uses the RatesAndService API to pull the types of services available and their associated costs. If you wanted to add TimeInTransit, you could sign up with UPS for a developer key and write an interface for your site to use the TimeInTransit API. You'll have to go through UPS certification before being allowed to use it on your site.

As for estimated time of delivery, the Air services have guarantees around 1- or 2- or 3-day delivery, as well as "before 10am" or "before noon" etc. Ground service typically has no guarantees; however, with the TimeInTransit API you might be able to obtain estimates for ground service delivery times.

You might talk to your UPS account rep to see if they can help you get yourself a developer API to write your own module and prepare your site for legal certification to use their API's.
