Offline email testing

I am running zen cart on my localhost b4 I go live with it to make sure it all works as it should.

I have tried placing an order, sending it to a friend, contacting us (me) and everything to do with emailing and all I get is a blank page which says: Email error.

I have changed my email transport method to smtp - smtpauth - php & sendmail. With sendmail I can actually get to the corresponding succes pages but i don't actually receive any emails, eigther as store owner or customer.

Could this be because I am not live?

Do you have the mail server in your localhost?
Or, do you have the facility for your test Zen Cart to send mail?

Thank you so much for your help. I installed FREE SMTP SERVER from http://www.softstack.com/freesmtp.html and evrything is working just as I expected it should.

Thank you again for your help. I can now move on to finish setting up my Zen Cart and hope to have it running live soon.
