Sales Tax + Sales Tax:

Hi,
My Zen Cart is doubling sales tax on orders. I have searched far and wide
to no avail for a solution. It’s probably simple and I am just missing it.
On then check out page it says
Sub-Total:

$8.95
Flat Rate (Best Way):

$95.19
Sales Tax + Sales Tax:

$784.09
Total:
Sales tax on this order should be exactly half this amount.
Check it out for your self at www.elitedatasystems.com/store
If you want to try it use Iowa as you state for your address so it will
Charge sales tax.

NOTE: I would recommend upgrading to v1.3.6 as v1.3.5 has several issues you do not want to be running your site with ...

How many tax rates do you have setup?

This is what is currently on my tax rates page.

Priority Tax Class Zone Tax Rate Action
0 Taxable Goods Iowa 7%
0 Taxable Goods Illinois 7%
0 Taxable Goods Florida 7%

I have seen you around on this forum for some time now
and at this point there isn't much at risk I would'nt mind letting
you into the admin side to take a look see.

Note: your taxes are all goobered up for those 3 states just at a glance ...

Hats off to you, great work. I have a computer store but cold never do what you do. It hurts my brain to much if you know what I mean.

So are you telling me I need studdy the tax Mod more.

Either that, which would be a very good idea ...

Or, toss me an URL to the Admin, login and password in a PM and I can peek and give you a hint that:

1 priority should be 1

2 you have the taxes setup probably for the US and forgot to set the detail for each state so you have 2 for the price of one per customer ... as I am in Ohio and get 2 taxes and I am not on your taxes list ...

3 in poking around I might see something else that is off that I am forgetting to tell you now ...

As in my other unrelated post, I said my next post would be about tax and signups... maybe a clue?.

If I sign up, then my products are displayed ex-tax, and at checkout, tax is added, and then again on that, so double tax calc.

If I sign up, log out, log in, all is tickety boo.

I had a good look about, but the search engine keeps telling me my search words are too common or too short. If I read every post that was titled 'tax' or 'tax problem'......

Of course only just found this as a result of testing new signups for referrals

Please point me somewhere else if this is not related.
I have basis of tax = shipping, and display prices including tax true, and my pricing is all attribute based.

When defining the Tax rates ...

Make a Zone:
Localization ... Zone Definition ...

Example: Florida 7%
Click Insert
Zone Name: Florida
Zone Description: Florida State Tax
Click Insert

Click Details
Click Insert
Pick Country: United States
Pick Zone: Florida
Click Insert

Click Back
Click Tax Rates

Click New Tax Rate
Tax Class Title: Taxable Goods
Zone: Florida
Tax Rate (%): 7.00
Description: Sales Tax (or use Florida Sales Tax)
Priority: 1
Click Insert

Now, based on Shipping Address the Tax Rate will appear correctly for Florida

You were missing the Details so all were set to everyone ... This has been fixed

Your Priority was set to 0 on each ... This has been fixed

Illinois was set to Florida on the details ... this has been fixed

So now, your taxes should appear for the 3 states and not for anyone with a Shipping Address outside those 3 states ...

Note: when adding/editing Products the:
Products Price (Gross):

will appear oddly as you have 3 taxes for 3 zones so this will add 21% ... this is something we are aware of and will be working on during the update of the Admin ... this is just a reference ... the real Product Price will be used in the Catalog ...

I peeked into your Admin and adjust a couple three things that needed proper configuration ...

NOTE: you are running v1.3.5 ... it is strongly advised that you upgrade to v1.3.6 as there are numerous bugfixes added to this upgrade that you need ...

NOTE: you had Payment and Shipping modules installed and set to false ... these were removed as you will find things run better this way

NOTE: you are not using Free Shipping but have 0 weight configured for Free Shipping ( Shipping/Packaging ) ... if you want 0 weight to be Free Shipping then set to 1 or YES in Shipping/Packaging and install the Free Shipping freeshipper Shipping Module ... if you do not want 0 weight to be Free Shipping then set to 0 or NO in Shipping/Packaging ...

NOTE: GZip was turned off in your shop ... GZip allows things to run faster and can be enabled in the Zen Cart Admin when disabled by default on your server ... if it had already been enabled by default on your server this should be set to 0 to utilize the server setting ...

NOTE: you are using the Classic template vs the templates and overrides system and should setup your own template and override directory to prevent losing all of your customizations ... there are numerous threads on using the templates and overrides in the forum, FAQs and Wiki ...
