Question about check out system?

I am new to those credit card stuff. But I do understand computer skills. I am doing a small business shopping cart.
I see the zen cart has credit card check out, 2checkout and paypal. Three the most popular check out module.

One question is that do I just go for 2checkout, cuz I am doing small business. My website does not have owned domain of ssl secured stuff. I am guessing 2checkout would be the best and safe way to checkout. I do not know how to deal with credit card transaction even I have ssl protected.

Any comment for me, plz?

How does 2checkout works? Is it like paypal? Do they charge me fees? Or is there any other checkout system you would recommend me to try?

If I do not want to go through other transaction company. I would like customers to pay in my website. How do I do that?
Do I go to visa and have a contract with them? Or my bank?
