Turn off free shipping on attributes

We sell both physical and virtual products and combinations of the two. i have just noticed that when you add a free bonus to a product via attributes that it gives the product free shipping when it shouldnt. how do i change this so that when we have a physical product with a download attached as a freebie shipping is still charged?

There are 3 settings for Always Free Shipping ...

The 3rd setting is for a Product/Download Combo:

PHP Code:


Special, Product/Download Combo Requires a Shipping Address

Now the Shipping charge can apply properly for weight or price or item count ...

Hi there, Thanks for your response. In case you cant tell i'm no web designer! can you please explain where i find that setting? Just to be clear, this is something that hasnt always been a problem and i have a feeling that i might have changed a setting by mistake. Also, we dont ship by weight or anything only by zones.

What i need is to be able to have a physical product that also has a virtual free bonus and still apply shipping charges. Like i say this has always worked in the past but something has changed when we added our latest product.

You help will be much appreciated!

When you are Adding/Editing the Product you can mark the:
Always Free Shipping

as 1 of 3 types ...

See if using the 3rd Option of the Combo will manage this properly for you ...

We are on version 1.2.4 (yes way behind but waiting on a new web designer) so we dont have this 3rd option. like i said before its has worked perfectly before so i'm sure its just a setting issue but dont have a clue what it is! have you any idea what settings i need to be looking at?

Any ideas?

I haven't looked at v1.2.4 in forever and do not have this even setup anywhere to try to find a work around ...

The fix to this, rather than a work around, was added in the v1.3.x series to handle this so that you could have Product/Shipping Combos where it wasn't just an either/or but rather allowed a combination of a Product being:

1 physical Product

2 download Product

3 combination Download and physical Product

so that shipping would work properly for all of these ...
