Because we sell over 1,200 products and charge the client's credit card only when we're ready to ship. Some items are drop-shipped and we often find out only after an order is in that something is out of stock, discontinued, due in a week, etc. Also, we ship a considerable number of international orders to which the shipping charges have to be computed separately and added to the total after the order is assembled. The gateway requires that all orders be resolved within a 24-hour time period (or within some time-limited period -- even 3 days is too short for some of the obstacles we encounter in filling certain orders); that is unrealistic for our business' purposes. If the order is not filled within the gateway's resolution window, it would lapse and the client would have to re-enter their order -- good luck on getting them to do that. We would lose a lot of business using a gateway so unfortunately it's not right for us. We need the flexibility to charge the client's card when we have the order ready to ship.
