I ask because if no-one else is doing it I'm prepared to give it a go- I'm on holiday from the end of this week till the 3rd of January so I'll have a bit of spare time.

Yeah, this would definitely be a good way of selling up to users.

For maximum effect it probably also needs to be linked in to the newsletters, so that previous customers can be remined of their potential discounts.

Any mod would need things like multiple points special days.

And really this needs to be integrated into the shopping cart so that customers know how many points they will earn at the point of purchase.

The points should only be added to the user's account after payment has been confirmed to prevent scamming.

It sounds like a lot of work to do this properly; traking the points is probably faily easy, but utilising them as a sales tool is the hard part.

Maybe the idea would be to create a core mod on which we can build other modifications...

Yeah, that is what I was thinking. The first thing to do is to write a mod which allows customers to accumulate points at the point of purchase, after the transaction has completed.

If this was accompanied by a rewards points php class that offered easy access to these points (ie, points per item, customers points, etc..) then it would make it fairly straightforward to integrate this into various parts of the site.

This almost needs to be part of the core implementation, the more I think about it the more I realise what a headache it would be.
