    red flag Install Question

I have installed latest Zen cart under a subdomain on Linux server running Apache. All files appear to have been placed in the httpdocs directory and none in the httpsdocs directory. Now when using the cart and going to "checkout" it states file not found. It appears as though it is looking for an index.php file in the httpsdocs folder. Do I need copy a file to the ssl directory or change a path or something?

You need to have the files in both the secure and non-secure directory ... or do the better setup and see if there can't be a symbolic link established so you only have to maintain the 1 directory and not try to maintain two ...

If your Plesk server administrator is willing to click the checkbox allowing symlink to join your httpdocs and httpsdocs into one place, you'll find things will work great.
If not, you'll have no end of headaches and wasted duplication of work if trying to use an advanced dynamic script such as Zen Cart on such a split hosting environment.

Yes I can do that but can I also just use the httpsdocs directory and keep the entire cart there? Is there a downside to doing that?

Yessirree!! There is a downside to doing that. Whilst search engines will list https pages they don't apply any ranking points to them, so by making all of your website https it will become almost invisible to potential customers.
