    Default Restoring database

I am currently running zencart 1.3.0.1
could someone point me to or tell me step by step how to restore the database?
I can get to the right screen (tools--database mysql) and I can click restore. However this is where it gets fuzzy.

I click on the specific date/file of the backup I want to use. Then I click restore.
It is a Gzip file that is compressed. I click restore and it gives me the name of the file and says "after unpacking the file from the archive"

Now, what it is saying is that I cannot just click restore when it is in gzip? what steps do i need to take to unpack the file from the archive??

I am a novice at this, so any help, step by step would be appreciated.

    thanks!

Um...well, I know I have gotten to mypspadmin before, just dont remember how I did it. Is there a specific url to go to?

The gentleman who does all my hosting stuff (and normally does my backups for me) is too busy to do this for me and I really need to get it back up so i can work on it. He hosts my site but i know that he has a server, just dont know who we are currently using.

Guess I will just have to wait on him cause i dont know the answers to your questions. Thanks for trying!!

If you have used phpmyadmin before with this host then this is the tool that you need.

    ok, i found the phpmyadmin.....finally!!!!!!!!!
I see the zencart database listed....now what do i do??

and next question...can i just restore the product info from the database? That is what needs to be restored...the rest (customers, customers accts ect are all correct and updated). I simply removed all the products as I went on sabbatacle.

Only attempt to restore a partial if you know how to edit the sql file correctly.

Quick Check list for phpmyadmin(provided by DrByte)

The ideal settings to do a backup via phpMyAdmin are shown below.

NOTE: BEFORE clicking on "Export", you should select your database from the dropdown, so that its tables are displayed. THEN click on the "Export" tab.

    - CHECKED: Structure
    - CHECKED: Add DROP TABLE
    - CHECKED: Add AUTO_INCREMENT value
    - CHECKED: Enclose table and fieldnames with backquotes
    - CHECKED: Data
    - CHECKED: Complete Inserts
    - CHECKED: Extended Inserts
    - CHECKED: Use hexadecimal for binary fields
    - Export Type: INSERT
    - CHECKED: Save as File
    - Filename Template: __DB__
    - Compression: "gzipped" (or whatever you prefer... gzip makes smaller files)

    TO RESTORE THE DATABASE:
    - open phpMyAdmin
    - select the database you wish to restore INTO, from the dropdown menu
    - click on the SQL tab
    - click on the Browse button, and select the file you downloaded when making the backup
    - click Go

    Hi Kobra,
Ok, well....i am following the instructions to restore the database (decided not to just to the products as that is too complicated for me right now).

I did everything fine until the instruction that says....click on the browse button.
    there is no browse button???

only a box that says Run SQL query/queries on database zencart and a go button.

shoot me, just shoot me now....

oh, i am trying to use a backup from 11/17/06. Its in my tools, backup my sql, but not in the phpmyadmin?
