    Default Override width problem

    Hi,

    I have created my own template with custom colours. I have tried to increase the width of the shop by manipulating the #mainWrapper code in my template's stylesheet.css but regardless of what measurement I specify for the width dimension it does not change anything.

    For example, for an 85% width increase it will still display as if the shop occcupies 750px of the browser window.

    /*wrappers - page or section containers*/
    #mainWrapper {
    background-color: #ffffff;
    float:left;
    text-align: left;
    width: 85%;
    vertical-align: top;
    border: 1px solid #9a9a9a;
    }

    Any suggestions?

    HAnsi

    To offer proper help on this we would really need to see the site. But a high proportion of these types of queries occur because a backup copy of the stylesheet has been made and left in the css directory. Zen Cart then pulls that stylesheet in when building pages and the original settings override the new ones. That's a complete guess of course and if it's not that, can you provide a link to the site where you are having the problem.

    The problem is as suggested above. You have created what I suspect is a backup stylesheet called stylesheet2.css and left it in your css directory. You have then applied your changes to the original stylesheet.css, but these are over-ridden by stylesheet2.css which effectively sets them back to their original values.

    Thanks. Indeed there is a stylesheet2.css and I will delete it and see if the problem is resolved. Either way I will let you know the outcome.

    Many thanks for your help,

    Hi Kuroi,

    It definitely works! Thanks a lot.

    One question regading stylesheet2.css: according to your posting it means that everytime I create a stylesheet#.css where # is a number it will override the default stylesheet.css. Am I right? Is there a way to prevent this apart from changing the naming to e.g. backup.css?

    Your understanding is correct on all points. The easiest way to avoid the problem is simply not to keep backups on your live site, as you will always be at risk of Zen Cart mistaking them for files it should be using. However, as you get more confident with CSS, you'll probably not be too worried about keeping CSS backups anyway as stylesheets are so easy to change - one of their advantages.

    Chiming in on me mate here:

    All files that are located in the /css directory that have the extention ?.css will be parsed. Instead, rename them as such:

    stylesheet.bak
    stylesheet1.bak
    stylesheet2.bak
    etc.

    This way you retain previous versions (if you might require them) and they will not be parsed
