Default Admin redirecting and stripping out the 'www'

    Hi there

First I'd like to congratulate the staff for producing the most comprehensive (and easily navigable) set of faqs I've ever seen!

I am just about starting to get ssl enabled on my site when I noticed a slight problem:

every time I hit www.mysite.com/admin it redirects to mysite.com/admin, eg: it strips out the 'www' from the address. Even when I am in admin and a retype the 'www' in front of the url all the links within the admin backend have the 'www' stripped out.

I have checked all the config files and they all point to the correct site with 'www' in the right place.

I am just worried I will be unable to access the admin without the use of ssl when the site goes live.

Can anyone help? Anything I should check?

    Many thanks in advance!

This is not a funbction of Zen Cart. Here is what is displayed in my admin:
    http://www.my_site.com/demo/admin/co...tion.php?gID=1

You might look at your htaccess or?? As Apache does not care if it is XXX.com or www.XXX.com

I'm really sorry kobra I'm not sure what you mean. I know about .htaccess but firstly I need to know:

    1. Is my website behaving normally?
    2. I have checked and double checked all the config files and they are all correct. If I am to use ssl to access the admin am I right in thinking all communication I have with the backend will be insecure because of the lack of the 'www' in the url? (I know I can order the cert without the 'www' but I would rather it was included)

The behaviour is not normal with out some intervention like through htaccess or another redirect.

You Are correct that the SSL can be issued to either.

I would check with your host about this.

Can anyone post me or pm me a sample of their root and admin folders' .htaccess file?

I think my root .htaccess file is incomplete

    Many thanks!

email me through this forum and I will return one to you....

Alternatively, to see if this is even the issue. ftp yours at the root and in ZenCart if in a folder to you local, Delete them on the host and see if this corrects this. If not replace/FTP back. Or if so you now know where to look or maybe not look

    DOH!

I hadn't (successfully) changed the site name in the configure.php in admin/includes.

I thought I had changed it before but missed the fatal warning in my cpanel file manager, I had changed permissions on the file beforehand and it hadn't saved my changes, so when I went back to check the site I assumed it hadn't worked.

Goes to show - when in doubt and the answer looks obvious, it probably is THAT answer.

Thanks to all, especially Kobra who took the time to pm and email me over it, I owe you a beer!!!!
