Image Not Available - Help!

I am new to ZenCart. I am excited to get started. However, I am having a problem with adding images to my products. Here is what I've done so far:

1. changed permissions in images and subfolders to chmod 777
2. thru admin products edit page I BROWSE for my image that is on my computer
3. then select that image
4. then select Main Directory as the UPLOAD TO DIRECTORY drop-down-menu-choice.
5. then I click on SAVE
6. it goes thu its save process and then still comes up with IMAGE NOT AVAILABLE when I go to my zencart site.
7. thru my FTP, I search for the image and cannot find it anywhere in the Image folder or any of its subfolders.
8. then I manually uploaded (via FTP) my image to the IMAGE directory
9. I went back into the product edit page in ADMIN
10. I typed the name of the image file in the IMAGES directory
11. then I clicked the SAVE button.
12. Nothing happens. It won't even do the little save routine. It acts like its frozen. I back to the browse image from my computer and it will do the little save routine but still NO IMAGE AVAIABLE - no image gets uploaded.

I've been trying to figure this out and search the forum for about 4 hours now and have no idea what to do. I hope someone can help.

What version of Zen Cart have you uploaded?

version 1.3.0.2

It looks like its working now. My Host changed some code on their side. Here is what they said:

"The path to upload_tmp_dir was not set. I have set it properly."

Any comment on this version?

My next challenge is figuring out where the pop-up image is supposed to go. Any threads you can direct me to for help?

1.3.0.2 is a very very old and buggy version ...

Zen Cart is on v1.3.7 ...

If you are just starting out, I think it would be wise to start with the current version rather than such an old version ...
