I had a coupon and it worked for all new customers. Now I don't want to use it anymore. I've made the coupon inactive (it's expired)...but it still sends the message in the welcome email and the coupon code. How can I stop this?

Admin> Configuration> Coupons/Gift Certificates> Remove the Coupon

Yes I've been trying that all morning, then read here on the forums that they cannot be deleted.
So that's fine I can live with it being listed in "Inactive Coupons", but it's still sending the message in the Welcome email.
How can I disable that?

You're in the wrong place in the admin.
Admin> Configuration> GV Coupons> New Signup Discount Coupon ID# Remove the coupon code.
