Default Applying attributes to all products in category.

    Hi,

I'm setting up a store selling photographic products where all the photos have exactly the same attributes (e.g. 6" x 4" Matt, 9" x 6" Gloss etc.)

Each category will contain photos of a different theme.

Is there any way of setting up attributes and their pricing and then to apply this to a whole category??

All the products will be priced by attribute and will cost the same amount - i.e. a 6" x 4" Matt Photo will cost the same regardless of what the photo (product) is.

I can only at the moment set up attributes and apply them to each product individually and having to set the prices each time which will take a very long time!

    Cheers,
    Oli

In the admin > catalog > attributes controller > one of the first nav bars has at the far right "Copy to Category"

Hi, sorry I was looking on the screen when no attributes had yet been applied to the product hence that option wasn't displayed.

So all I have to do is set up at least one product with all the attributes and then I can apply this to any category I have and it will update all the products in that category?? If so that's exactly what I need!

    Thanks Kobra!

Yes, that should work... Except I am having a bit of trouble with it.

I have three categories I need to apply it to. when I copy to the first two categories, all is well. when I try to copy to the third category, every single time it gives me a 500 internal server error???

I've already raised my admin time-out settings, etc. So it's not that... what could be making it do that?

I got to thinking about it after I posted, and thought that might be the issue...

This should not be an issue and I was just trying to get a feel for how much trouble it would be to find if there was a product that was causing this.

Try the copy to a single product in the category to few of these. Isuspect that there is maybe only one product that is causing the error

it's not a problem for zen-cart.. .it is a problem for the way they have mysql configured with my hosting company *sighs* I have had this same issue when trying to update the database through the mysql admin. it only lets me do 250 lines at a time. and I had 251 products to update... lol.. when I went and looked at them, they were all updated but the last one.
