Product database non searchable from admin

Hi for some reason when i search for a product in the admin area it never returns a product, no product whatsoever. I can search for a product that I know is there and still nothing comes up. If i search for a product through the front of the shop however, ie as a customer might use the search then I can find the products? Anyone help with this ?

Sounds like you are missing the master_categories_id in your products table ...

This is a common occurance if you import data ...

Using phpMyAdmin, peek at the products table and browse it ...

Do you have values in the master_categories_id that match the Product's Categories?

If not, do you use Linked Products?

One method to fix this is in the Tools ... Store Manager ...

First backup your database ...

Then, there is a setting to:

Reset ALL Products Master Categories ID
to be used for Linked Products and Pricing:

Next, you need to update the products_price_sorter ... there is another setting for:

Update ALL Products Price Sorter
to be able to sort by displayed prices:

What these do is they look to the products_to_categories table and set the first record found for the categories_id as the master_categories_id ... then that is used to recalculate the products_price_sorter ...

Perfect Linda, I backed up the database and did as you suggested (it was indeed imported data), there was no master_categories_id as you suspected. I followed the instructions and now can search fully from the admin area, thank you very much.
