I can't do this upgrade thing and have messed it all up....

Look, I've read the instructions for upgrading, I've practically read the entire forum, I really can't do this and now its all messed up.

Is there anyone around who can walk me through this online?

via aol messenger or email or something?

I'm really desperate and seriously concerned that I'm going to lose it all, especially seeing this forum of problems others have had!

Please please help me...I'm losing business whilst I've got the whole thing shut down for maintenance!

Okay, I guess that was a big ask. How about this? I post a few questions and somebody put it in laymans terms?

In the upgrade instructions it says:

Make a full backup of your database (dump to SQL file). Store this file on your PC for later reference.

Make a full backup of your site files (ftp to your PC and zip it up for safe-keeping).
Keep the backup on your PC to use in next steps. Perhaps call this folder "[FONT=Courier New]\zen_backup[/FONT]".


Now does the "dump to SQL file mean that bit where I did a back up in admin using "Database back up - mysql"?

Does that backup mean its saved the customers, products,categories etc?

So far I have a new cart uploaded in its own file. I'm trying to do thiswhole sql thing but that don't work.

Can you talk me through it?

I have never felt so thick in all my life.

If I could back it all up in the first place I might feel better but I can't even seem to do that despite the tutorials and posts tha tI've read!

of all existing files and folders.
2. Have you made note of all EXTRA modules you currently have installed.
3. Does your webhosting company have CPanel installed.
4. What method are you using for trying to download copy of
your existing mysql database.
5. There is quite a lot of preperation to do before upgrading,
so closing your site is probably not useful at this time.

When I try to do that I get an error message saying that I have images that are the same name (only difference is caps). It says I have to change their names but when I go to file manager it just shows up one so therefore I can't change the names.
I've copied as many files as possible manually.

phpadmin in cpanel but when I try to import it into my new database attached to the new shop that I uploaded I get error message

I just panicked that an order might come through and I would lose it. Figured it was best to close it for 4 hours and do the upgrade.

Log into domain control panel
click backups then click
Download a MySQL Database Backup
then click
Download a home directory Backup
Save those files to your computer..if necessary
also burn them onto a cd...

Modules... not necessarily shipping, have you downloaded
and installed any extra modules from downloads section here at
zencart...
4 hours for an upgrade is fine, IF you have attempted this
before..would allow more time if first attempt. As you do not
appear to have everything ready yet to upgrade, seems a pity
to lose business.
What is EXACT version of zencart you currently have installed?

I give up. I accidentally deleted my zc1 database instead of zc2 (my new test one).

I give up. I've lost extremely important info and am now crying.
