Default Please Help with SSL install

    Hello all!!

First I would like to say that Zen Cart is an excellent piece of software. I would like to pat everyone who was involved on the back. Cheers!!
I know this question has been asked many times and I have searched the forums and FAQ's for the answer.
Basically, I want to get my checkout working through SSL. I have my own certificate and it is ready to go.
The way my host (Register) has the file system set up is like this (at least this is the way I understand it.):

    /public (port 80)
    /private (port 443)

The root of my Zen site is in the /public folder.

Now can someone, please, give me a step by step how to on this? Basically, what I don't know is do I just need to move certain folders to the /private folder? If so exactly what folders.
Once these folders are moved where do I change the config to point to them?
If I want the admin to go therough SSL, how would I do that (what files or folders get moved)?
Basically, I don't know which files get moved where and how to set them up so Zen can see them.
Feel free to check my site out at www.jaztechnologies.com
Let me know what you think. 1 week ago I never heard of Zen Cart and today this is where I am. I am using a slightly modified version of Glossy Blue.

    Thanks for everything guys!!

    Nice job.

Zen Cart auto switches to a secure session when setup correctly:

    Dedicated IP
Private SSL certificate issued to either www.your_domain.com or your_domain.com
Then edit your 2 configure.php files to enable entering the htpps:// path

Since you have 2 totally seperate folders,

after changing the configure.php files to set ssl to true.
you will need to copy the complete public folder into the private folder.

now open the configure.php files that are in the private folder

    do a search and replace
    /public/ to /private/

now when ZC goes ssl it will switch to the private folder this will all happen automatically

Or - get onto your hosting company and ask them to Sym Link (Symbolically Link) the 'private' folder to the 'public' folder. Then you don't have to duplicate, move, or change anything.

Thank you everyone for the responses.
I would obviously like to go the cleanest/easiest route. That would be the SYM Link route but Register doesn't seem to know that much about it. I'm still going to try.

If I go the Merlinpa1969 route, does that mean I have to maintain two identical (for the most part) websites? This seems like a hassle.

What if I put a .HTAccess file in the /public folder to point to the /private folder? This would basically make the whole site secure. Is there a downside to that? Would the search engines still be able to crawl the site?

Sorry to be a pest. I just want to do this correctly.

    Thanks again!!

https pages get spidered and listed - but they don't get any page ranking applied to them by Google. So making your whole website https would be a waste of a website - it may as well not exist.

Yes, you either have to Sym Link the two folders or maintain two sets of folders/files - except for the admin folder which you'd only keep in the private folder.

If your host doesn't know how to Sym Link the two folders - start running now!
